- We hope that the new APM terminal will be able to handle a large part of container traffic on Zealand and to take up an essential role in the supply chain. In geographical terms, Kalundborg is well located near the primary shipping routes, and we therefore anticipate being able to provide good service to current and future customers, says Per Bøch Andersen, Head of Operations, APM Terminals.
Each week, APM Terminals will handle containers at the terminal. That requires good interaction between ships, dock cranes, heavy handling machinery and lorries that deliver and collect containers. With a wide quay route, several main routes and carefully marked storage zones for i.a. power supply for refrigerated containers, the terminal is a logistical piece of art.
- The terminal is dimensioned for optimal operations. So are machines and equipment from N.C. Nielsen. We have had a positive dialogue, found a flexible solution and had a powerful machine fleet delivered in an extremely brief period of time. We depend on the three Konecranes reach stackers which especially stand their test when a container ship berths and the site is full of lorries, say Martin Bro Andersen and Nikolaj Klokholm, Operation Supervisors, APM Terminals.
The three Konecranes reach stackers operate from morning till night. The powerful low-emissions engines operate with reduced fuel consumption and observe environmental rules and standards. They lift, rotate and place all types of containers when being unloaded or loaded unto lorries and when being stacked or placed in a storage zone.
The task of the Terberg terminal tractor is to carry containers from the quay and further up in the terminal where Konecranes reach stackers take over. That provides the most cost-effective operation. At the same time, the Linde E50 electric truck is busy moving small containers, intermediate bulk containers and other goods. In that way, APM Terminals achieved an adapted machine fleet that ensures flexible container operations.
- Working with APM Terminals is a pleasure. We had a tight deadline on 1 March 2021 when the container terminal was planned to open. So we worked at full throttle to ensure delivery of the brand-new Konecranes, prepare the used machines and get everything ready at the terminal for the opening day. We're happy it all worked out and look forward to servicing the machine fleet, says Jørgen Peter Lund, Sales Manager, N.C. Nielsen.
