Take a Linde forklift as an example: safety begins with its design. The operator is always positioned within the machine’s frame, ensuring excellent visibility of the load and surroundings. Independent braking systems prevent unintentional rolling on ramps or during truck loading or unloading. The Linde Curve Assist system automatically adjusts speed when cornering.
The forklift is built for reliable load handling. The tilt cylinders are mounted at the top of the stable safety frame, directing forces down through the machine’s structure. These long cylinders provide greater mast stability and reduce oscillation, particularly when stacking at height. Additionally, the slim mast profiles enhance visibility during operations.
At Linde, safe operation is closely tied to operator comfort. An ergonomic working environment is often essential for a safe workplace, reducing unnecessary fatigue throughout the day. For instance, Linde cabins are designed to protect the operator by isolating the cab from the drive and steering axles. Adjustable seats, simple instrument layouts, and advanced climate control systems further enhance operator comfort.
"Safety is deeply embedded in Linde’s DNA. They are known for setting global standards with innovative solutions like safety lights such as Linde Blue Spot, Linde VertiLight, and LED strips. Linde focuses on active safety by developing robust solutions to prevent collisions and other accidents," says Poul Kyndi Laursen, Product Manager at N.C. Nielsen.

The risk of accidents is particularly high when driving a forklift in reverse. Operators may face distractions, blind spots, and obstacles in narrow aisles, increasing the likelihood of collisions with people, shelving, or other equipment. According to Linde, two-thirds of all forklift-related personal injuries occur while reversing.
To address this, Linde has developed the Linde Reverse Assist Radar, which reliably detects both moving and stationary objects in the forklift's reverse path. The system quickly identifies hazardous situations and intervenes by adjusting driving commands. The forklift slows immediately and stops forcefully in cases of imminent danger, preventing collisions.
Simultaneously, the system alerts the operator using a multi-step process that includes a loud warning tone and visual signals in the cabin (if equipped with an optional 7-inch display). The operator is prompted to check the area behind the forklift and can override the system using a release button if the hazard is distant or no longer present.
Linde is the only manufacturer offering such a radar system for forklifts, demonstrating a proactive approach to preventing collisions and workplace accidents. The intelligent braking behaviour of Linde forklifts can also be combined with other systems, ensuring an exceptionally high level of safety in daily operations.
