Case N.C. Nielsen developed two customised Linde E50 for Danish Stevedore. The two powerful electric trucks are now operating at Aalborg Portland where Danish Stevedore manages internal transport, and the Linde trucks ensure fresh supplies of alternative fuels - day and night. The electric trucks therefore contributes to the green transition at Aalborg Portland that is gradually transitioning to a more sustainable cement production.

Moving around mountains of chalk and sand, keeping the chambers heated and the mills turning require a huge amount of energy. Aalborg Portland is one of Denmark's largest electricity consumers, and the cement works uses as much electricity in an hour as ten households use in one year. Such a huge consumption requires much work to optimise energy consumption, including the kind of fuels.

- Aalborg Portland is replacing fossil fuels with waste and biomass to heat the chambers. In relation to the green transition, exchanging coal with sustainable fuels makes sense, and we assist in carrying the green plans of the cement works into effect. It's a very exciting transitional process, says Søren Larsen, Chairman, Danish Stevedore.

Linde E50 operates 24/7

The two Linde E50 electric trucks with a fork clamp or huge bucket are constantly busy working on a well-defined task: to provide the huge facilities with sustainable fuels such as wood chips, recycled paper, plastic and rubber materials in a precise mixture proportion. The robust Linde E50 machines operate inside where they shovel fuels for the facilities and outside where they retrieve compressed fuel bales from the nearby storage area.

- We chose a Linde truck with Lithium-ION batteries as the machines must have maximum uptime. We have a charging station close to the entrance to the production hall, and our truck operators can charge from a battery capacity of 10% to 80% in only 20 minutes. The Linde E50 trucks are very good at conserving power, and that is obviously essential to an electric forklift truck, says Søren Larsen, Chairman, Danish Stevedore.

Linde with special cooling

The environment inside and around the production hall is highly dusty, dirty and challenging for driving, regardless of the weather conditions. Therefore, both Linde E50 electric trucks have been developed with a special cooling system for the front axle to keep it from overheating and to divert dust from the cooling system.

- N.C. Nielsen has helped us solve our challenges. It’s been a very educational, exciting and technically demanding process. We’ve benefited much from N.C. Nielsen's service engineer who participated actively in the development work and now provide very good service. We can contact him directly and don't have to go through a head office in the other part of the country, says Søren Larsen, Chairman, Danish Stevedore.

The green development work supports Danish Stevedore’s role as a service company for Aalborg Portland. The customised Linde E50 electric truck with bucket, fork clamp, Lithium-ION batteries and optional equipment such as Linde Warning Lines and Linde BlueSpot is visible proof of sustainable development at Aalborg Portland which will be intensified in the future.

- We’re happy to have been able to contribute to the green transition at an important industrial enterprise that has implemented many initiatives to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. We see many perspectives in the green technology and are determined to deliver even more logistics solutions for that good purpose among our customers, says Bo Lindegaard, District Manager, N.C. Nielsen.
