In a nutshell, the NCN Energy Timer consists of a physical box and associated Cloud service. The service works via a WiFi connection to a data server and with software that automatically switches the box on when electricity is cheapest or greenest. The timer can be set to charge for a specific period of time and in relation to whether a CO2 module with measurement data for ESG reporting has been purchased.
NCN Energy Timer is the result of lengthy development work and the solution has been tested at one of N.C. Nielsen's customers with a large fleet of Linde electric forklifts. In the test, the timer was set to charge between the hours of 3:00pm and 6:00am with a total charging time of five hours per day. The test showed that the customer saved DKK 0.71/kWh and 34.4 grams of CO2/kWh on average on a monthly basis.
“The timer assures our customers financial savings on energy consumption and encourages more sustainable energy use. It makes sense to charge batteries when the price of electricity is at its lowest or when the carbon footprint is lowest. NCN Energy Timer can be customised precisely to the machine fleet, the circadian rhythm of the internal logistics or the desire for a greener profile,” says Kasper H. Nielsen from NCN Energy Solutions.
